Ireland opts for four more years in the coalition's basement
The election is over, and voter turnout was the lowest since 1923, the same year the Irish Civil War drew to a close. In 2024, a new cold civil war is taking place between the island's boomers and an increasingly disenfranchised youth. Last week saw Fianna Fail moving forward together with Fine Gael's new energy, sending lace curtains twitching and stairlifts whirring as coffin dodgers joined the comfortably well-off for one final "fuck you" to those challenging the status quo. The BDSM relationship between a submissive mature electorate and the two dominant establishment parties is as uncomfortable to picture as it is to shake off.
